Astoria Tech Meetup #45 @ Our House Queens
Hey neighbors! 🏠
Our next evening meetup will be on Wed, July 9th at 6:30pm.
We're excited to again be hosting the meetup at Our House Queens, a co-working & event space here in Astoria.
This month, in addition to our usual open time, we will do two things:
- Open up the floor & projector for rapid demos from anyone who wants to share what they're working on
- Have a group discussion on topics like (but not limited to) the shifting role of software engineers, new tools and libraries, the job market, etc
It'll be a night of learning and discussion, so come out and hang with the local tech & tech-adjacent community.

Astoria Tech Meetup #44.1 @ Our House Queens
Hey neighbors!
Our May meetup will be on Wed, May 21st at 6:30pm.
We're excited to again be hosting the meetup at Our House Queens, a co-working & event space here in Astoria.
This time, we'll have two or three volunteers build something from scratch live, using AI-assisted tools like Cursor, Windsurf, etc.
We'll be gathering volunteers on our Discord, so join and share your idea in the #general channel if you're interested! (link below)
So come on out and learn exactly how folks are using these new tools to build!

Astoria Tech Workshop: Kubernetes 101
IMPORTANT: This workshop requires a basic understanding of programming, the terminal, and Docker.
Kubernetes is an open-source container orchestration platform that automates the deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications to a cluster of servers. It helps ensure efficient resource utilization and application availability.
We will go over what Kubernetes is, why so it's useful, and teach you the basics on how to use it.
Everyone will learn:
- the core concepts behind Kubernetes
- how to use
minikubeto create a local Kubernetes cluster - how to use
kubectlto deploy a an application to Kubernetes
Attendees should:
- Bring their own laptop
- Install
minikubeandkubectlahead of time (we can help!) - (because seats are limited) attend the whole workshop
Astoria Tech Workshop: Docker 101
IMPORTANT: This workshop requires a basic understanding of programming and the terminal.
Docker is a platform designed to create, deploy, and run applications by utilizing containers, which package up all dependencies and configurations needed to ensure consistency across different computing environments.
We will go over what Docker is, why so it's useful, and teach you the basics on how to use it.
Everyone will learn how to:
- use the Docker CLI
- write a Dockerfile and build a Docker image
- run containers locally, via Docker and Docker Compose
Attendees should:
- Bring their own laptop
- Install Docker ahead of time
- (because seats are limited) attend the whole workshop
